Texas Adult Driving Test (18+)
Take your official Texas Adult Road Test at our licensed driving school without the long wait at the DPS. Our certified third-party testing service makes the process fast, professional, and stress-free.
Whether you’re testing in your own car or using ours, we’re here to help you succeed.
To take the Adult Road Test, you must:
- Be 18 years of age or older
- Hold a valid Texas Learner License (Permit)
- If you are between 18 and 24, provide an ADE-1317 certificate, which proves completion of a 6-hour Texas Adult Driver Education Course
- Watch the Impact Texas Adult Drivers (ITAD) video and bring a printed certificate (valid for 90 days)
- Bring a completed DL-14A Application for Texas Driver License
- Provide proof of lawful presence, if applicable
- Bring printed copies of all required documents (no digital copies)
- Download and complete the Adult Application Form (DL‑14A)
- Create your account at the Texas Driver License Portal (TxT) using the same email address you will use on your application. (Visit: http://txt.texas.gov)
- You are a U.S. citizen
- You are not turning 25 within 30 days
- You have no pending transactions with DPS
Once documents are submitted, we cannot make changes, offer refunds, or contact DPS on your behalf.
Once approved, you’ll be able to download your temporary license by logging into http://txt.texas.gov, and your permanent license will arrive by mail.
- Bring your own vehicle (must meet all safety and legal requirements)
- Use a school vehicle - $30 Fee
Your vehicle must:
- Have current registration
- Have valid insurance with the VIN clearly listed
- Have both front and rear license plates
- Have no spare (“donut”) tires
- Be fully functional
- Turn signals (front and rear)
- Brake lights
- Horn
- Working seatbelts
Company or rental vehicles are not allowed unless VIN and insurance match.
You must test at a DPS office if:
- You cannot communicate effectively in English
- You are hearing impaired and need an interpreter
- You use vehicle modifications or assistive devices
- You hold an out-of-state or international learner license
- Parallel Parking
- Backing in a Straight Line
- Lane Changes
- Right-of-Way Rules
- Obeying Traffic Signs
- Right and Left Turns
- Approaching Intersections and Corners
- General Vehicle Control & Driver Posture
- Arrive on time to allow for check-in and paperwork
- Arrivals more than 10 minutes late may be rescheduled with a $40 fee
- Cancel or reschedule at least 24 hours in advance to avoid fees
- Same-day cancellations, rescheduling, or no-shows will be charged $40
Drive2Go Driving School uses Drivers Test Now, a DPS-authorized Third-Party Skills Testing provider. All road tests follow the official Drivers Test Now mobile testing route and meet Texas DPS standards.
We are a DPS-authorized Third-Party Skills Testing (TPST) provider, certified to administer the official Texas Adult Road Test. All tests follow DPS-approved procedures and scoring criteria.
